Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 63c7e563d0 wip(assembler): round L29 -- strate transitions honoured at the bedrock/ceiling interface
EVoxelStrateTransition from the upper strate shapes the bedrock(N)/ceiling(N+1) interface in the
shared composition layer: Hard flat; Gradient = smooth 2D hash surface (16 m owner width, about 4 m
measured undulation); Interleaved = 3D domain-warped fingered overlap within the width. Each band
keeps >= 2 Core voxels solid; faces return to the seam near passage mouths. Interface audit over
512 m: 0 hole columns for all modes; wider-than-declared and too-thin controls rejected. All passage,
route, proof and validator audits pass; deterministic Clang = GCC. Evaluator 15. Cost +4% SW,
+1.3% FI vs L28. Open: ring-like artifact on the FI floor capture; transition look unverified.

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 f23ab7b9fa wip(L28): passage columns/routes culled per tile (BVH); cost back near L24, bit-identical to L27
GenerateMesh scopes passage queries to the tile's sample bounds with a feature AABB BVH plus
per-passage segment BVHs; L9 proof boxes use a passage-bound BVH. Whole view vs L24: FI ~0%, SW
+3.7% (reviewer interleaved). All hashes equal L27; all passage/route/proof audits pass.

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 07b3fe2852 wip(L27, side branch): passages cross open voids inside shared natural rock columns
Unsupported passage runs > 12.5 m become a solid relief-bearing column (ceiling/island to
ground, flared base) with the helix inside, for every recipe; FI anchor uses the same path.
All 4 styles x both recipes: 0/0/0, 0 open-air, naturalness pass; no-long-bridge audit (L26
fails it). Deterministic, Clang = GCC. Look approved; cost +35% SW / +19% FI blocks merge (L28).

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 37a223046c wip(L26, side branch): every passage style walkable in both recipes (0/0/0); SW bridges look wrong
All 4 styles x both recipes pass capsule, open-air and naturalness audits, and full-view hashes are
deterministic. But the SW passage crosses 355 m of open SurfaceWorld sky as a ~2 km fragmented rock
ramp, which is not natural. L27 replaces long bridges with a shared ceiling-to-ground rock column.

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 ef789aaa00 wip(L25, side branch): FI helix enclosed in a 13 m rock root; support never created in open air
Fixes the L24 ribbon (owner request). NOT merged: the open-air support gate leaves ~4,000 unsupported
samples on every SurfaceWorld-recipe passage style (TN -> SW), a walkability regression. L26 fixes that
on this branch. See Linux25/REPORT.md.

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 cb9236c265 wip(assembler): round L24 -- per-strate passage styles; natural Worm default; FI anchor island
Core plans inter-strate passages from each upper strate's FStratePassageConfig for every
generator: Straight / Worm (the new natural default: meander, variable radius, rough walls) /
Spiral / Cascading. A naturalness audit (no >8 m flat runs, >=0.20 m wall relief) fails on L23's
smooth tube. FloatingIslands selects Spiral, with a deterministic unique anchor island (ordinal 2)
joined to the bedrock floor by a rock root. The SW arrival no longer stamps flat shelves.
Capsule audits 0 blocked / 0 unsupported / 0 grade failures, all styles. Full-view hashes
deterministic W1/W8/W12, Clang = GCC (reviewer re-run). Evaluator 10, FI geometry 5.
KNOWN: the FI helix renders as a spiral ribbon in open air around the pillar instead of a tunnel
enclosed in rock; fix next round. Unreal edits uncompiled.

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 71d09a8c52 wip(assembler): round L23 -- inter-strate passages planned from the resolved layout and carved
After L22 the FI -> SW passage no longer connected the strates (legacy owner-voxel coordinates,
lower end 23 m above SW), and Core never carved passages through the bands. Now the director
plans passages from the resolved layout (PlanResolvedLayoutPassagesV1; deterministic hash of
seed/strates/connection; placement disk from PassageConfig, 8-24 m around (0,0)); shared
composition applies generator field -> bands -> bounded passage carve and support shelf, opening
the bands only along the tunnel. Mouths bind to the strate routes. Capsule audit: 0 blocked /
0 unsupported (325,962 samples FI, 284,319 TunnelNetwork), negative controls detected; all 8
generator kinds exercised. SW away from the passage is bit-identical. Layout V3, evaluator 9.
Open: look not yet natural (stepped tube in FI void, terraced SW arrival); SW-as-upper route
planning fails; Unreal adapter uncompiled.

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 55c26a05a7 wip(assembler): round L22 -- one 8 m layout chunk for every strate; real ceiling -> content -> bedrock
StrateLayoutChunkSizeMeters (world setting, default 8 m; owner decision) is resolved once in
the director/adapter and standalone loader; every generator reads the resolved width (no
CHUNK_SIZE / Core-tile inference). Every strate gets solid ceiling and bedrock bands from its
BoundarySealThickness in the shared composition path (diggable by default); faces come from the
shared boundary path. Owner world: FloatingIslands +8..-120 m (128 m, now with a bedrock floor),
SurfaceWorld -120..-632 m (unchanged; full-detail and exact-query hashes equal L21); the 60 m gap is
gone. The strict layout validator passes on the real world, with 0 endpoint dispatch
disagreements. Spawn/benchmark camera derived from route.front. Ledges under the islands gone
(reviewer capture). Evaluator 7, recipe schema 2, layout snapshot 2, FI geometry 4.
Open: SW cap profiles exceed the ceiling band (owner call); transitions still Hard; Unreal
setting/manager/adapter edits uncompiled here.

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 8753f6dbe4 wip(assembler): round L21 -- resolved strate layout snapshot + validator (no world change)
Core ResolvedLayoutSnapshotV1 (canonical JSON, stable identity): per strate stable ID, generator,
recipe, interior bounds in metres, ceiling/bedrock bands as Core really applies them, transition
mode/width, dispatch provenance. Validator: compat mode reports today's deviations; strict mode
enforces ceiling -> content -> bedrock -> next ceiling (owner rule), two separate bands, nominal
contiguity, interpenetration only within the declared EVoxelStrateTransition width; 7 negative
controls rejected. Findings: SW built at -120..-632 m although the params say -60 m; a 60 m unowned
gap filled by analytic FI fallback; no active bedrock bands; transitions ignored by Core.
All L19 hashes unchanged (28 + 14 crossing runs). The Unreal adapter exports resolved_layout
(uncompiled here).

Standalone/DESIGN_STRATA_UNITS_AND_LAYERS.md: maps today's code to the three layers, ranks 9
violations (top: no single physical stratum-bounds/interface record; SurfaceWorld 8 m vs
FloatingIslands 4 m per chunk), defines the director-resolved generator request/result contract,
moves seals/caps/voids/interfaces into shared composition, and proposes an explicit LOD-stable
interface surface for the L19 ledges. 6-step migration plan with "worlds don't move" checks;
owner decisions listed. No code or world change.

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 811c4b7b17 wip(assembler): round L19 -- strate ceilings closed at every LOD; ledges diagnosed
The shared boundary-cap path now emits a cap wherever the field is solid just below a strate's
configured top (it previously required a solid-to-air crossing there) and checks a 5x5 perimeter
grid before suppressing a fallback cap. Strict audit: 0 misses / 0 edge gaps, LOD0-8.
farHorizonVersion 3 -> 4. SurfaceWorld LOD0-2, full detail and exact queries unchanged; 28/28
matrix plus 14/14 crossing; route parity and proofs pass.
Ledges: the lower stratum's terrain at the FI/SW interface, seen through the FI void, sampled at
0.5/1/2 m at LOD1-3 (up to 1.5 m / 7.7 m ring steps). Fix deferred to the units/layers round.

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 dcf0763ec5 wip(assembler): round L18 -- FloatingIslands false floors removed; shared strate ceiling
FI geometry v3 drops the all-XY lower boundary seal that created false floors (3.5/8 m); the
ceiling comes from the shared VF_ApplyUpperBoundarySeal and AppendStratumBoundaryCeilings path
for every generator, at each strate's own configured upper boundary (owner: every strate has a
ceiling). Far-LOD ceiling continuity: 0 gaps at LOD4-8. SurfaceWorld bit-identical to L14
(14 configs + 24 m crossing); FI deterministic (28-row matrix); route parity and proofs pass.
Unreal: FI geometryVersion 2->3 and the shared upper-seal helper extracted (UBT compile needed on
the owner PC). Open: small ceiling holes; lower-stratum LOD ring steps seen through the FI void.

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 87041290dd docs+tool(assembler): round L17 report; readable shading in the Linux capture tool
The capture tool gains --shade=readable (directional light, soft ambient, height tint) and an
optional --tile-edges overlay; display only. The L17 Core fix is NOT merged: its owner/Core chunk
scale change (8 m -> 4 m) moves every stratum and leaves the SurfaceWorld spawn camera over a void
(reviewer before/after renders). Kept on wip/l17-fi-scale. The FloatingIslands full-XY
boundarySeal cap is the likely real cause of the false floors and needs a separate minimal fix.

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 976d012a86 wip(assembler): round L13 -- one density field for every route (multiplayer determinism fix)
Region pages fell back to the legacy GetDensityAt evaluator while the base shape used the Core
manifest field, so a tile's density (and sometimes mesh) depended on streaming history. Pages
are now bound to their world's base FStandaloneShapeWorld evaluator before publication; density,
lattice, detail, classification and solid queries all delegate to it. WorldAssemblyEvaluatorVersion

(base/page, base/native-only, edited, two histories), 56 exact-query pairs, 2.3M page samples,

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 32b8670833 wip(assembler): round L12 -- region pages keep LOD1 block proofs: 24 m crossing 5x faster
Analytic region pages now retain the immutable shared manifest, so LOD1 page tiles get the L9
uniform-block proofs (71.7 -> 5.6 ms per tile). Reviewer W12 no-hash: 24 m crossing 0.898 ->

crossing hash unchanged (W1/W12).
KNOWN BUG (pre-existing, measured here): the same tile key yields different density from the base
shape (manifest field) than from a region page (legacy field), sometimes different mesh too, so
output depends on streaming history. To be fixed in L13.

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 b1cfaf53b8 wip(assembler): round L11 -- fix 24 m+ crossing crash; near ring ready 2x sooner at spawn
Crash: crossing tiles were coalesced into one huge rectangle, and BuildSpatialBins tried to
resize to ~4.3e17 bytes (std::bad_alloc; the L7 32 m failure had the same cause). Analytic
regions now skip unread dense bins and compile in world-aligned 128-voxel pages, published

streaming pipeline (moved verbatim into StreamBenchmarkPipeline.h / WorldAssemblyPrototype.h).
Owner Round17 view: density/mesh/payload/topology hashes equal the Windows S13 reference at
W1/W8/W12 (Clang, 3 runs each) and W8 (GCC), with -ffp-contract=off. No output change.
Baseline (i9-12900H, CPUs 0-11, powersave/balance_performance): whole view W8 3.562 s median,
W12 3.512 s, W1 16.555 s; peak RSS < 605 MiB.
Review: the default-stack crash is 17.3 MiB of static TLS per thread (glibc puts it in the
thread stack; HeightfieldColumnCache 6.8 MB), not recursion -- open, after S14.
MSVC compile of the viewer refactor not verified (no MSVC here).

Luna, M1 round 4 (resumed after the night stop):

old taper control exposes 20,963) and a root-line shelf at the two-voxel minimum.
- Horizon slab = aliased LOD8 cap ceiling. The first fix hid the ceiling at LOD8 (challenged:
enclosed, interior-lit strates); now the LOD8 cap is rebuilt deterministically from the
native heightfield, skirts preserved; looking up and out shows the cap present.
- Routes: review manifest with 33 stable-ID route points + capsule/support constraints; capsule
sweep 0 blocked samples / 0 unsupported centres, negative control detected.
- Server path: World::densityAt answers without render meshes. Physics cooking not available
  standalone.
- Hashes (evaluator + 2,226-tile stream) identical at W1/W8/W16. LOD8: 4.446 s for 529 tiles,

Speed (matched workloads): 120-tile full detail 0.089 s native vs 0.625 s legacy; 529-tile
clipmap 3.858 s vs 11.687 s -- 2.29 s above the ~1.57 s aim; LOD8 dominates (165 unknown
tiles, 13.27 M field calls, 10.88 M column-cache misses).
My capture review: coast matches legacy closely; surface clean but a dark flat slab on the far
horizon; cliff shelf renders as a stack of thin plates with back faces showing (sub-voxel
shelf thickness suspected).

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 fcb16fd265 wip(assembler): M1 round 2 -- surface recipe closer to legacy; native still slower and visibly buggy
Luna, M1 round 2 of 4: round 1's mismatch was an underfit recipe (two synthetic profiles,
missing large-scale surface terms). Now: biome IDs match 4,096/4,096, mean height offset
-1.366 vox, density MAE 274.04 -> 17.23 vox, sign mismatches 55.2% -> 18.14%. Bound audit
298 boxes / 8,046 points, 0 misses, negative control caught. Hash c5e0371612e927af at
W1/W8/W16. Surface query 8-14 ms / 4,096 points. Matched 3D capture pairs added.
Problems (my review of the captures + her timings):
- matched 120-tile views: full-detail readiness 5.227 s native vs 2.882 s legacy -- SLOWER;
- surface capture shows a rectangular flat-topped raised block with vertical walls
  (tile/patch-level height bug, inferred);
- cliff capture is broken (floating shard, debris trail), not a cliff.

Luna, M1 round 1 of 4 (plan in Standalone/ASSEMBLER_M1_REPORT.md):
- Versioned fixed-scale world manifest (the shipped plan format) and the Core block
contract: point evaluation, interval-or-unknown, influence bound, detail envelope, channels.
- Interval audit: 256 boxes / 6,912 samples, 0 missed, 0 unknown; a deliberately false bound
  is detected (negative control).
- Native Heightfield2D with biome input: 4,096-point hash fae2721c052aec5c identical at
W1/W8/W16; point queries 2.059 ms vs 62.115 ms legacy -- but NOT a match yet (mean density
error 274 voxels, 2,261 sign mismatches vs the legacy surface). 45 mesh-free Core queries
match direct evaluation exactly. Existing cave world unchanged (walkability, 64/64 tiles).
- Open: collision readiness, a valid full-view timing (viewer captures were occluded/empty;
top-down height maps are the only usable pair).
Also carries the design doc's owner decisions (fixed water; player edits unrestricted, route
law for automatic changes only) and three plugin files + BuildHost scripts that earlier round

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 7661fe9d24 wip(unreal): round 5 (stopped early) -- all 15 passage/strate probes walkable
Luna, round 5 goal 1 only (stopped by owner decision before the SurfaceWorld port):
- Worm and Cascading passages now pass walkability; the wide floor stays clipped while the
  narrow route core stays open.
- Hidden third failure found and fixed: long VerticalShafts diagonal legs were dropped from
  Core's spatial bins by a 100,000-bin safety cutoff (invisible to density queries);
  conservative bins restore them (18,570/18,570).
- All 15 saved probes pass a walkability-only gate; build-time walkability gate added.

Luna, integration round 4 (owner requirement: Core must know every strate type).
Coverage, Core vs legacy owner field (one probe per type, 686,000 LOD0 samples):
TunnelNetwork approximate (2.17% signs differ); FlatPlain / CrystalChamber native slab
fields missing (generic cave, 1.28%); Maze missing (13.3%); VerticalShafts missing (no
shaft surface); FloatingIslands missing (95.8%); Underwater approximate + no water.
SurfaceWorld: exact density (0 sign changes, LOD0-3 hashes match) through the copied
legacy evaluator -- but at legacy cost: full view 23.1 s vs legacy 23.9 s (Core caves

Luna, integration round 3, from the owner's four in-game screenshots:
- Capsule rings at the opening and the shaft continuing through the cave room were Core
world defects: the synthetic bore is removed and the opening gets a finite origin room
and floor (solid below). New world version, W1/W8/W16 identical: density
  a8bcb72d41092503, mesh 90f29ba15e24579f, payload 82c6b489e7bb7fd7, topology
  7b99448a1f844f2c.
- B-side landing and surface: headless coverage found no missing tiles or LOD-transition
gaps (960 / 640 fine tiles compiled after travel); best explained by Core's missing
SurfaceWorld representation. Null-RHI cannot rule out a presentation-only issue.
- Core mode GetBiomeAtWorldLocation now answers (e.g. Biome_Surface_Plain); biome
terrain itself is not generated yet (proposal: native Core SurfaceWorld evaluator).

Core-only CoreClipRadius=3 / CoreMaxClipLevel=8 (owner's asset untouched); 25 cm Core

UE-task JobScheduler, epoch-checked Mpsc results, existing RMC upload + collision cook;
carving via sequenced applyEditTransaction. Switch off: BuildDesiredTiles takes the old

BuildHost proof (actor commandlet, staged copies of the owner's assets): all 2,226

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 29ca99af7f wip(unreal): VoxelForgeCore UBT module + asset adapter reproduce the standalone world
Luna, integration round 1 (BuildHost only; owner's project and assets untouched):

(sources stay canonical under Standalone/), NoPCH/no unity, manifest check; VoxelForge
links it (no runtime routing yet). UE link-safety audit: 18 shims, 83,843 symbol lines
  vs 399 Unreal-style names, 0 clashes.
- Adapter (editor commandlet path) turns staged copies of the owner's DA_* assets into
schema-v1 JSON; with clip_radius=3/max_clip_level=8 it reproduces all four Core hashes
  (0xdb2991c73215af4c, 0x8236c5edd7fc8e4f, 0x4c48fa75a543d58e, 0xbea22e76b34a4dfc) and
  walkability 5,642/5,642 at worker limits 1, 8 and 16.
- Noted: the owner's settings asset says max clip level 6 (standalone used 8); Core uses

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 61106be142 wip(standalone): GPU step 29 -- viewer no longer self-resets affinity; per-exe shader bundles; W16; CPU route now fastest
Luna: the viewer reset itself to BelowNormal (since step 3) and 0xFF00 (since step 11)
at startup, overriding the runner; every earlier "full machine" race started on 8 CPUs
until the runner reapplied the mask. Fixed in viewer and agreement runner. Core
worker clamp raised to 16 (W1/W8/W16 hashes identical). Shader binaries now pinned per
executable (precompiled/<exe>/); Step27 control rebuilt from 7d1808f with only the
bundle lookup backported. Tried CPU fallback for skirted near tiles: -0.74 GiB GPU
memory but 2,934-4,086 missing pixels in four remote views, so GPU skirts stay default.
Audits: hashes W1/W8/W16, walk 5,642/5,642, near/far HW+WARP 0 diffs, both survivals
pass (7.00 GiB), ten captures 0 missing pixels.

My runs outside the sandbox (driver cache warm, marker removed first):

Luna: near skirts were CPU-only by implementation gap, not correctness. Ported with
near-resolution refinement and overflow fallback; near-probe preparation split out so
the skirt kernels no longer inline the near field (first attempt: two fxc /O3 compiles
ran 10.5 h and were stopped). Shape compile proven identical at W1/W8/W16.
-SkipCpuDetailBand retired (154/640 skirt audit failures, +174 ms planning).
Audits: hashes W1/W8/W16, walk 5,642/5,642, whole-near 960 tiles + 640 skirt faces

survivals pass with 2,074 candidates at 7.00 / 7.02 GiB (was ~6.2), ten captures pass.

My runs outside the sandbox (Step28.exe). NOTE the machine was ~25% slower than last

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 7d92e148a9 wip(standalone): GPU step 26 -- first launch fixed again; device-removed was our readback overrun
Luna: on a marker miss the deferred warmup no longer gates the initial view
(starts after the full CPU view is presented). The forced-cold DXGI 0x887A0005 was
ours: GetDeviceRemovedReason = DEVICE_HUNG after the audit readback of tile
(-7,-7,0,lod8), slot 1433 -- the readback copied the theoretical 61,440-vertex maximum
from a 19,456-vertex pooled slot, 41,984 vertices past the end of the last chunk's
buffer. Readback now clamps to slot capacity (audit-only path; normal launches never
read back). Auto and forced-cold survival both pass (1,434 submissions, ~44.6 s, <8 GB).
Added a no-write option for the warmup marker. Direction answer in LUNA_DIALOGUE.md.

Luna: shape_compile profiled (8 workers, detail band ~323 ms of ~545 ms over 9.39M
candidates; roughness dominates). Exact vertical roughness endpoint reuse in
ShapeWorldInternal.h, hashes unchanged: ~548-577 -> ~535-548 ms. Overlapping
pipeline/pool with shape or streaming made things slower, so it stays serial (pool
precompile now 4-20 ms). Export starts before the first CPU frame. Marker-miss stall
reproduced and gated differently; the forced-cold survival audit now hits
DXGI 0x887A0005 (device removed) on a timestamp query and is NOT passing. Auto
survival passes (6.16 GB). The vertex count at InitialClipmapReady counts CPU
batches only (GPU-resident tiles excluded) -- confirmed counting, not missing geometry.

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 94d50edb47 wip(standalone): GPU step 24 -- warmup policy off the critical path; first launch = CPU
Luna: warmup policy (marker read, hashes, adapter query) now resolves on a
background thread; startup fflush(stdout) removed (a redirected flush measured
136 ms). Device-init -> generation-setup gap 0.056 ms on the miss route.
Deferred-batch replay runner reproduces 85-86% of the viewer's GPU time
(240 vs 279 ms); the old "10x" compared one LOD2 tile to a mixed LOD0-8 mean.
Remaining sequence-dependent spikes (11-29 ms on tiles that take ~0.1 ms alone)
are unexplained. Open: a marker-miss survival audit once stalled after

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 bb082f3ae9 wip(standalone): GPU step 23 -- skip empty connector-ring dispatch; cached 1.07-1.17 s
Connector-ring kernel skipped when a tile has no rings, no connector vertices and no
visible skirts (skirted tiles keep it: an earlier variant lost remote coverage, caught
by the captures). Outlier controls: the step 22 67 ms tile runs in ~23 us isolated,
also after a pool touch; no-present control did not remove outliers. Cause unknown.
My runs outside the sandbox (Step23.exe, marker removed first, interleaved, -Timeline):
  CPU 1.360 / 1.294 / 1.287 s
  GPU cached 1.168 / 1.072 / 1.151 s (GPU timestamps 295 / 245 / 264 ms,
      max dispatch 52.7 / 9.2 / 35.0 ms)
GPU marker miss 1.449 s. Measured: on the miss route, device-init end to
      generation-setup begin takes ~132-155 ms (s22 a/e, s23 a) vs ~3.5 ms on the

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 052b6de354 wip(standalone): GPU step 22 -- startup multi-batch pump, pool before handoff: cached 1.12-1.20 s
Per-batch GPU timeline (submit, timestamps, query, consume). Startup Draws submit
several ready batches per pump (80 ms startup budget, 16 ms per batch); the output
pool is reserved before the warm-up-pending deferral.
My runs outside the sandbox (Step22.exe, marker removed first, interleaved):
  CPU 1.295 / 1.314 / 1.284 / 1.342 s
  GPU cached (marker match, -Timeline): 1.197 / 1.121 / 1.133 s
(1,124 / 1,380 / 1,415 GPU tiles; output pool at 655-680 ms in all three)
  GPU marker miss: 1.446 (-Timeline), 1.447, 1.312 s (no -Timeline). The 1.447 run's
shape compile ended at 776 ms vs 634-643 ms in its neighbours, so this is
startup variance, not a clear regression; to be watched.
Known tradeoff: startup pumps can stall the main thread 65-108 ms (submit calls run
past the budget); fine before the first view, to check in an interactive viewer.

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 38f6009200 wip(standalone): GPU step 21 -- GPU input export shares the 8 workers (3:1 priority); no wall gain
Export tasks interleave with CPU tile jobs on the existing pool. Slow-dispatch keys

My runs outside the sandbox (Step21.exe, marker removed first, interleaved, GPU with

Export now starts at 686 ms in run c (was ~850), but the whole view is unchanged
(1.216 s): from first input (721 ms) to ready (1,216 ms) the GPU path spends ~500 ms

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 2cb3344e1b wip(standalone): GPU step 20 -- detail band batched by 8 columns; gap instrumented
ApplyDetailBand claims eight adjacent columns per batch, keeping each column's scalar
order: shape stage ~586 -> ~566 ms in Luna's profile. Hashes w1/w8 identical.
My runs outside the sandbox (Step20.exe, marker removed first, interleaved):

  GPU 1.320 (marker miss, 0 GPU tiles) / 1.244 / 1.215 / 1.219 s (match, ~1,400 GPU)
Shape compile 549-570 ms in both modes. The 669-821 ms gap in cached runs is still
there: export starts only after [ChunkCrossingWork] reports the ~840 CPU tiles
(LOD0-2) finished, so GPU export waits behind CPU meshing on the shared workers.

App-owned marker (bin/VoxelForgeGpuWarmup.state: adapter, driver, shader sources and

warm-up overlaps startup, at Normal thread priority (was Idle).
My runs outside the sandbox (Step18.exe, marker removed first, interleaved):
  CPU 1.395 / 1.363 / 1.329 s
GPU 1.409 (marker miss, cold driver: 0 GPU tiles, warm-up 683 ms after present)

      GPU busy 206-227 ms)
Cached target was <= 1.26 s: not met. With the GPU taking almost every tile, the

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 6f2d33e0a9 wip(standalone): GPU step 17 -- far skirt-depth fix (LOD3/4 back on GPU); adaptive start trades cached speed for first-launch
Coverage: the broad missing patch on far tiles was GPU skirt depth using the LOD key
step instead of the exported coarse mesher step (800 vs 1,600 cm at (6,2,0,lod3)).
Fixed; tile pixel-identical to CPU, 680/680 + 64/64 triangles, 1,434 GPU-eligible
tiles (was 1,082). Audits: hashes w1/w8, walk 5,642/5,642, thin/protected 0 diffs
vs CPU and WARP, survival 6.15 GB.

Adaptive start: CPU owns the first view while the shader queue is pending.
My runs outside the sandbox (Step17.exe, interleaved):
  CPU 1.375 / 1.363 / 1.354 s
GPU 2.040 (first launch of build; 0 GPU tiles, CPU worker sum 6.98 vs 5.05 s)
      / 1.279 / 1.337 / 1.328 s
Cached warm-up queue now 329-632 ms (step 16: ~3 ms), so GPU took 258 tiles

First launch improved 3.09 -> 2.04 s but still loses to CPU. Also adds

CPU uploads now bypass the 4-batch / 2 ms cap until the first resident view.
Luna's race (inside the Codex sandbox): CPU 1.354 s vs GPU 3.152 s, warm-up

Timeline showed the post-export window was frame-paced: the 4-batch / 2 ms

readback overhead, not compute (~33 ms of GPU work in total).

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 b61ccff549 wip(standalone): GPU field step 2 -- far-field shapes/strata/relief in shared C++/HLSL, GPU field+mesh
Seven LOD2-8 tiles: RX 7900 XTX field+meshing 0.335 ms vs CPU generateTile 15.81 ms; repeat runs
bit-identical; CPU W1/W8 44/44 hashes unchanged. Not yet a real gain: rock/air signs still come from
CPU masks for every sample. Viewer does not draw GPU tiles yet; no whole-view timing.

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 d4b4377d30 research(standalone): GPU first port -- marching cubes in D3D11 compute, exact vs WARP; field still CPU
- Compute shaders classify cells from CPU sign bits, scan output offsets, emit vertex/index buffers
and indirect-draw args. Two 32^3 tiles: 0 topology differences hardware vs WARP; two runs on the
  RX 7900 XTX identical; max CPU/GPU vertex distance 0.000122 cm (LOD0), 0.000244 cm (LOD1).
- GPU kernels 0.049 / 0.071 ms vs CPU tile 2.33 / 1.99 ms, but CPU input preparation dominates
(7.25 / 2.84 ms wall): no whole-view gain until the field itself runs on the GPU.
- VoxelForgeFieldShared.h: first shared C++/HLSL field math (integer noise hash, ...).
CPU path unchanged.

Fr0zkaandClaude Opus 5.5 566d1f342a standalone: rock detail restored in lattice-resolvable bands (4-16 voxels), owner-band gate added
- Relief per wavelength band compared with the owner field; the 4-8 and 8-16 voxel bands were lost.
Restored within the partition-of-unity blend; max detail gradient 0.545 (limit 0.55).
- New owner-band gate: fails all six views on de14f00, passes all six now.
- W1/W8 44/44; path hash both directions; routes 5642/5642; stair-distance, ring, thin-sheet,
  coarse-panel, far-survival audits pass; bad-shell control fails.
- Cold 1.127 s vs 1.108 s (within spread); nearest-tile readiness 12.20 vs 12.16 ms.
Caveats: the 143-ray GridStair normal audit is at 62.2% vs its 60% limit (was 76.9%); in the tunnel
capture the floor shows a regular dimple pattern, and the passage shaft close-up is still smooth.
